Blackstar and El Prado

The week has arrived. WCB will be camping at Blackstar all week as well as attending the El Prado event on Sunday!!! Wednesday night we will be hosting a potluck BBQ at our WCB campsite in Blackstar. Please stop by and say hello!!!!

Welcome to 2015!

So already 3 months into the New Year, and WCB has already done so much. As usual we kicked off the year with our annual caravan to Buses by the Bridge. It was epic as usual! Just last weekend we headed up to Refugio for a quick campout on the coast, followed by Meet in the Middle in Solvang. What a great weekend, we added a few new members and had a great time. Check out the 2015 Up Coming events, it’s all been updated so clear your schedule for the next event. I will be up in San Jose for the Kelley Park Show in April, and then in Madera the next weekend for Spring Fling. Looking forward to a great year, hope to see you all out there!!!

Summer is Here!

The year is half way over, and I’ve really been neglecting updating the page. I apologize for that. This past weekend we just had the OCTO show out at Long Beach, followed by El Prado on Sunday in Chino Hills. Both were great events and the weekend had a lot to offer VW out of towners. Next up is the VW Classic out at the OC Fair Grounds in Costa Mesa, Ca. I’m really looking forward to this event, and I hope to see some familiar WCB faces out there on Saturday June 21. Visit www.bugorama.com for more info.

Back from Buses by the Bridge!

We had an amazing time at this past weeks Buses by the bridge in Lake  Havasu Az. Last count was just over 400 buses registered for the weekend, which set a new record for the event. I threw together a little video for anyone who couldn’t make it. Next year mark your calendar, this is one you don’t want to miss!!!

Big Wednesday 2013

What a great down down at Sano! If you don’t know already, the 2nd Wednesday in August is the yearly get together down at San Onofre State beach in San Clemente Ca. This year a few of us camped at the nearby San Onofre Bluffs campground on Monday and Tuesday night, then early Wednesday morning made our way down to the surf beach about 2 miles from the campsite. Weather was a little overcast and the waves were less than desirable, but it didn’t take anything away from an amazing day down at the beach. Every year this “little” get together get a little bigger and this year was no exception. By noon there were about 130 Volkswagens lined up and down the beach as far as you could see. Everyone who attended seem to have a good time, and I’m sure looking forward to next year!

Circle the Wagen FREE SHOWING!!!

My friend Charlie Pecoraro has put the finishing touches on his documentary called “Circle the Wagen” which follows him and a friend on their journey across the US in a 72 Bus. Local VW dealership, Capistrano VW, has set aside a few days to have a free screening at their location for anyone interested in attending. They will be showing the film on July 9 and July 13, 2013. A few of us have already reserved tickets for the July 13th showing at 7:45pm. Visit: Capo VW to reserve your free tickets, and remember to drive your bus to the show!!!

For more information on the film, please visit the homepage for Circle The Wagon :)

OEBC Spring Picnic and Campout at Featherly Park

As most would agree, this is one of the best events of the year. If you love camping and VWs like most of us do, then this is one show you can’t miss. On the first weekend in May, Corona Ryan and his OEBC club put on this event at the Canyon RV park in Yorba Linda Ca. You can come and camp as early as Thursday, with the following Sunday being the official show held in the RV park just a few hundred yards from where the camping takes place. Although I’ve been coming to this show for many years, it’s only the 2nd time I’ve camped. But once I did, I knew I would be a camper every year to come. Even the flu, which kept me in my bus most of the night, wasn’t enough to detour me from showing up. We had 10 WCB members all camping together in their buses, which was just absolutely awesome! If you didn’t make it this year, be sure to be there next May!

Bugstock 2013

This was my first time back to Bugstock since it’s first event at the horse track. I have to say, it was a very fun event, full of lots to do. The show was tacked on to the Orange County Swap meet, so there was a lot of swap meet foot traffic coming over to check out the VWs. The Beatles tribute band sounded good, and the weather was spot on. We had a nice little gathering of bay windows in a prime spot off to the side on grass and everyone seemed to be having a good time. Hopefully next year we can get a large WCB group together :)

Meet in the Middle & Refugio Campout

WHAT A WEEKEND! That about sums it up. This past Sunday was the Meet in the Middle up in Solvang and a few of us decided to make a weekend trip out of it. We left Orange County at 8am Saturday morning and pulled into Refugio State Beach just around 11. There was no problem finding a spot big enough for 3 buses so we went ahead and set-up camp and relaxed for the rest of the afternoon. If you haven’t been to this campsite, it’s definitely one you NEED to see. Great layout, large campsites, clean bathrooms and right on the water. What more can you ask for?? Sunday we took our time breaking down camp, eating some breakfast and heading out around 10am. The drive is about 25 minutes up the 101, but before we knew it were had arrived at the Meet in the Middle. The show was already packed with VWs stuffed into every corner. I was told there were over 200 cars, which after 10 years running is the largest turnout they have had. As the afternoon slowed down, a few of us headed into Solvang to grab a Danish and take in the sites. We eventually ended up at Pea Soup Andersen’s for some dinner, and around 5:30 we were back on the road heading home to Orange County. It was just a nice mellow laid back weekend with great people and cool cars. I’m hoping this will become a yearly tradition for West Coast Bays, so those who couldn’t make it better mark their calendar now :)

Hot VWs Drag Day was HUGE!

What a day yesterday. This was one of our largest Drag Days in years, and I’m just glad everything ran smoothly. The Swap Meet was so big we had to turn people away, and the Show and Shine area started to take over the pits. All in all it was a great day with awesome weather and cool cars. What more could you ask for. Now I just need to get my bus ready for Meet in the Middle this weekend. Hope to see some of you out there!
